A member asked:

Can thin stools be caused by bowel cancer?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes: A change in the stool pattern becoming thin over time can be due to presence of a malignancy. The content of the rt. side of the colon is liquid so that tumors there do not interfere with stool shape. On the left side of the colon near rectum, the stool is solid. A polypoid lesion produces no change but a circumferential lesion narrowing the diameter of the bowel causes thin stools.
