Varies on the cause: "Chronic" pancreatitis is a misnomer. The disease is actually recurrent attacks of (acute) pancreatitis. Every attack is different & has a different severity. Acute pancreatitis can affect other organs: when inflamed, pancreas releases digestive enzymes inside the body (instead of the intestines, 4 food). The organs get digested instead. 9 of 200,000 ppl have it, only 20-30% survive 10 yrs from Dx
