A member asked:

I'm 36 years old trying to get pregnant but i'm concerned about having a down syndrome because of my age how at risk i will be if i conceived?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

For giving birth: to a child with DS your risk is 1:275. At 16 weeks gestation your risk of having a fetus with DS is 1:200. This is assuming there is no FH of Down Syndrome. These numbers are approximations based on no other risk factors. They all, however, calculate your risk of having a child without DS at greater than 99 percent.
