Eye Doctor: Symptoms of retinal detachment may be flashing light (photopsia) , a shower of floaters and vision loss. Depending on the cause of your retinal detachment I would defer to an Ophthalmologist to check your other eye and determine if you are at risk.

Retinal detachment: Retinal detachment may happen from variety of reasons like extreme myopia/ near sighted, previous eye surgery, diabetic retinopathy, blunt injury to the eye and sometime no known cause. If you have predisposing factor there is higher incidence of having in the other eye is higher. Seeing flashes. floaters and curtain or shadows may be some of the early symptoms, Have the other eye checked.
