A member asked:

Is it conceivable that an unchecked skin condition caused by infection could eventually cause issues elsewhere in the body?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

YES!!: Intact integument (skin and mucous membranes and associated structures) is the most important portion of the immune system. When infection occurs there it may easily spread to other areas, and also by being present it may adversely affect other portions of the immune system. This is a topic which would require much more space than what is available here. Hope this helps.
