Talk to your doctor: Amoxicillin is not an effective drug for boils, unless it's combined with clavulanate. Even then, boils are commonly caused by MRSA (resistant staph) that require particular antibiotics. If the boil is near the anus or genitals, it may require different antibiotics. Most of the time pus collections must be drained. Antibiotics will not penetrate them. See your doctor to get this healed.

More treatment: Continue warm compresses but if there is increasing pain, tenderness, more tense swelling, the boil may have to be drained by a physician. If there is spreading redness, it requires an examination by your physician who may continue the antibiotics, also.

Boil: A boil or abscess needs to continue to drain for optimal healing. If you need antibiotics, then a full course of the proper antibiotic should be taken. You should get in and have this evaluated to see if it needs further drainage and treatment. In the meantime, continue the heat. Take care and good luck!

Considerations: Continue warm compresses if still seeing pus or lump still present.Have you taken 2 doses of amox or 2 10 day courses? If 2 courses have been taken and still with redness and tenderness and/or pus should have your doctor consider a different antibiotic that treats skin infections a little better than amox.Sounds like it may be on its way to healing though.Hard to say without looking at it.

Boil: The combination of hot compresses and antibiotics may have already helped to decrease the infection causing the boil. Usually it takes more than 2 doses to get rid of the infection. I would continue hot compresses and wait and see if the infection decreases. If it is increasing in size seek medical attention immediately. Keep the area clean and dry if possible.
