Costochondritis?: The bone that runs down the center of your chest, where your ribs connect, is called the sternum, and the joints formed where the ribs connect are called the costochondral joints. They can get slightly injured/inflamed, leading to costochondritis. It hurts when you press over a joint, and sometimes with deep breathing. Avoiding strain, rest, ice & ibuprofen or naproxen for a few days usually helps

Several thoughts: When a patient says they have pain above the stomach between the middle of the rib cage I assume they are referring to pain in the pit of the stomach, called the epigastric area. Pain in this area can be due peptic ulcer, reflux esophagitis, and several other conditions. Rather than try to diagnose yourself it's always advisable to see a physician so he or she can examen you.
