Our 6 year old has a fever for 5 days now with headache and body aches. is a fever of 102 for 5 days unusual?

YES IT IS: A child with a fever that is acting normal, eating, peeing, pooping and playing is less a a concern. However a fever over 101 is always more serious and the duration is very concerning. I would ask you take him to the ER ASAP!

Needs Exam: It does sound like the flu. Could be a summer enterovirus, or possibly even influenza, it is now November. Push fluids, motrin as needed for headache and body aches. If she has fever in the morning, bring her in for an exam by your pediatrician. After five days, we want to consider alternative diagnoses. Best of luck!

See a doctor: A one time fever in a young person is usually not something to worry about but continued fever for 5 days needs to be evaluated by a physician. See a doctor ASAP.
