A 27-year-old male asked:
What is a definitive workup for ruling out poems syndrome?

Internal Medicine 48 years experience
POEMS: Polyneuropathy, Organomegaly, Endocrinopathy, Monoclonal protein, Skin changes. All cases have peripheral neuropathy and a monoclonal plasma cell disorder. Absence of either of these make the diagnosis suspect. Other criteria are osteosclerosis, elevated VEGF and lymph node hyperplasia. Thanks for trusting HealthTap!
