You need some physiotherapy to strengthen the thigh and hip muscles and RICE Rest, ice, compression and elevation Meds like advil (ibuprofen) will also help.. Crosstraining will also help as getting some of the weight off the knee such as swimming. See doc.

No running: I agree with Dr. Minich -- swimming, yoga, and biking would be less stressful for your knee right now. Please also work with a physical therapist to strengthen the supporting knee muscles.
