HIV: You did not say how long after sex you were tested and how you were tested. The best thing to do, before having unprotected sex, is to see a clinic or a doctor specializing in STDs and be checked several times up to 3 or sometimes 6 months after possible exposure. Be very careful, this is a bad disease. It is dangerous out there.

Which test? Timing?: The timing is unclear from your question. HIV test results are conclusive 4-6 weeks after exposure, depending on exactly what test (or combination of tests) you had. Is he on treatment? Do you know whether it is well controlled, i.e. his HIV viral load? Was the sex vaginal, anal or oral? Was a condom used? If any doubt at all, hold off on sex with anyone else. Ask the doc/clinic wherre you tested.
