Ask Your Doctor!: You should ask your doctor for the reason, but my guess is this: we are all reluctant to expose anyone to ionizing radiation like x-rays, especially someone as young as you, and especially the neck or pelvis. So sometimes some info can be gained by looking via ultrasound first. Then, use x-rays/CT as the next or last resort if MRI (expensive) is not available. Really depends on what's being looked for.

Globus: Your doctor knows more than the ultrasound tech. Disregard her lack of knowledge. Most likely, your doctor wanted to evaluate your thyroid for enlargement or nodules. That's perfectly reasonable . You should be tried on anti-reflux meds and possibly referred to ENT for laryngopharyngoscopy to eval for any mass or edema.
