A member asked:

My fathers bp shoots in the night for a while & then comes down.he has high bp for years and on medications to control it.what might be triggering it!

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Hypertension: His blood pressure may be increasing because his medications are not truly controlling his condition. A 24 hour monitor may be needed to check that. Is the blood pressure cuff you are using the right size for him, has it been calibrated to the one at the doctors office. When does he take his meds, ?right before you check it? Does he have salty snacks at night. Discuss this with his doctor.
