Increases risk of : cancer. Radiation can cause mutations in your genes in cells. If enough mutations accumulate in the wrong genes, you could get cancer. A CT of the coronary arteries, without a clinical reason to do so and "just to check" in someone without cardiac risk factors puts patients in harms way because little benefit is expected to accrue For the small but definite increased risk of cancer.
