What does free lying pelvic appendix mean?

Position: A free lying appendix refers to the position being deeper inwards into your pelvis . For doctors this may explain why most appendicitis patients have abdominal pain in the right lower quadrant while free lying pelvic appendicitis will likely have tenderness usually during a rectal exam. I hope our Healthtap radiologists and surgeons will be able to comment more on this terminology.
