Could try: Rubbing alcohol or betadine. You can use over the counter Lamisil (terbinafine) too.

It would depend on : How bad your fungus is if it is indeed fungus. Your doctor should of sent a sample of the nail to a lab to make the diagnosis as bacterial colonization and subungual keratinazation both look like fungus as well but are not. There are many topical treatments that have been suggested but they only work about ten percent of the time. The nail must be cut away to be more effective.
