Pretest probability: There are ticks and Borrelia in California. Here in the Northeast, he would certainly be tested for Lyme given our background of infected ticks and possibly started on oral meds pending ELISA and Western blot results. Bell's palsy is an early finding, but not 1 day after camping. This would not preclude his having been bitten some weeks or months earlier.
