Less than NOW: Having gone through a partial (medial-Oxford) knee replacement the first 1-2 days were similar to the pre-op pain, then it improved exponentially from there. You'll be glad you had it done. If you can get by with a partial knee vs. a total knee do the partial. I'm 7 years out and doing well. Good luck

A fair amount: Pain is a very subjective issue for each patient. Total Knee replacements are more painful than total hip or partial knee replacements. There are certain factors that come into play: a persons pain tolerence; use of aggressive pain management; continuous ice machines, early PT etc. The good news is that each day the pain lessens each day. Very high satisfaction in the end. Good luck.
