None: Tonsillitis does not have stages that I am aware of. Tonsils are sized from 1-4 and this system is usually called tonsil grade or tonsil size or sometimes tonsil stage. Tonsil cancer has different stages from I to IV depending on the size of the tumor and amount of spread of the tumor, if any.

Size and infection: Tonsils may be "staged" 1+ through 4+ based on size. Also infections may be categorized as acute tonsillitis lasting 12 weeks.

Yes: Antibiotics work well for most tonsillitis; for recurrent tonsillitis (several times a year), see your ENT for risk reduction.
