A member asked:

Should i try oral route glycerol for treatment of my intercranial hypertension before i try something more toxic like topiramate?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Huh? Come Again?: I'm not sure I quite understand. Who recommended oral glycerol to treat intracranial hypertension? That is a highly antiquated form of treatment for IIH. Results are poor. Nobody recommends that first line anymore. Weight loss is better than glycerol to treat IIH. Diamox is the standard drug of choice for IIH followed by Lasix then, possibly steroids. Topamax (topiramate)? For headaches? Poor efficacy.
