Arcus senilis: This could be an arcus senilis, which is merely a deposit of cholesterol and neutral fats in the peripheral cornea that occurs as we age. It does not extend to the center and does not affect vision. It is nothing to worry about. I would check with her ophthalmologist just to be sure.

What it sounds like: Is something referred to as arcus senilis. It is sometimes seen as a complication of "high cholesterol" but in fact is commonly found in aging people too. There are others causes for rings, like calcium deposits, the so called limbus sign. To better determine the cause and treatment a picture and medical history would be helpful or just reviewing this with her own doctor.
