Mandible infection: Malunion means the bone edges have not healed or not healed properly. This may be due to infection. Once an infection sets in, the plates may require removal as it is very hard if not impossible to clear an infection with plates in place Osteomyelitis of the mandible will require long term antibiotic treatment (iv).
