A member asked:

Can antiviral drugs make the infection to recurr instead of life long immunity? ex: chicken pox

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Unlikely: Since exposure chicken pox, the virus is already replicating days before pox are noted. This is ample time for a person's immunity to start making antibodies. Recurrence of cp is more likely to be based on an individual's innate immunity when they first acquire the infection and later health. Rx needs to be started in 24 hours after pox appear, and important if newborn or other health issue.
