Potentially: High fiber diet has been linked to lower rates of colon cancers based on epidemiologic studies. Even if it doesn't decrease your cancer risk, having soft bowel movements also reduces your risk for developing hemorrhoids.

Unclear.: There is not a clear association of constipation and cancer. The polyp formation is needed to be reviewed by your doctor as to type. If it is a tubulovillous adenoma you need further followup in a timely fashion. If there is colon cancer history in your family you also need close followup. The improvement of the constipation will make life much easier but may not decrease the chance of cancer.
