Allergic reaction?: it is possible this rash is allergic and should respond to a topical steroid, however, it is possible this could be due to something infectious. Since redness is a noted side-effect of differin (adapalene) cream, it would be best to have a GP or dermatologist to see the rash ASAP and make a diagnosis, rather than just treat and see what happens.

Acne: your acne can get worse before getting better. If rash worsens see your dermatologist for possible change of medication

Differin (adapalene) 0.01% ?: Do you mean differin (adapalene) 0,1% (0.01% does not exist) or do you mean tretinoin 0.01%? Lets assume you are using differin (adapalene) 0.1% cream which is a good medication. It may take 6-8 weeks sometimes to see results and sometimes things will worsen before they improve. Also keep in mind acne is a chronic issue, it will come and go. Also always make sure you use the med as prescribed by doctor.
