They are healing: Red spots at the site of a previous pimple are normal and expected as part of the healing process. Pinching and picking pimples will make them MORE red than they would be otherwise, so avoid doing it. Differin (adapalene) is used to recondition the skin and enhance cell turnover to prevent future outbreaks, and should be applied sparingly over the entire face.
