May i take hawthorn and metoprolol?

Hawthorn: There is a lack of solid evidence for beneficial effect of hawthorn for anything. Given the lack of evidence, there is no scientific reason to take the stuff. Metoprolol has been proven to benefit many things. If your Doc is prescribing metoprolol take it, ask the Doc about hawthorn.

Safe but monitor...: Hawthorn has many proven benefits for the heart- see http://umm.edu/health/medical/altmed/herb/hawthorn It may lower blood pressure (BP) a bit so one should be careful your BP does not go too low, but my experience in using Hawthorn in dozens of patients is its effects in lowering BP are rather mild and doctors commonly prescribe more than one antihypertensive agent.See http://tinyurl.com/m3w6db3
