joint @ base of my second toe on top of my foot(not the ball) is swollen. started w/mild discomfort when i curled my toes. now painful and swollen.

See Podiatrist: Any warmth, tenderness, red or purple coloration, or limited range of motion? Any trauma? Don't know your age or past history? A podiatrist is likely to be able to accurately diagnose the cause of these symptoms.

Pain at bottom: Of your foot can always be plantar fascitiis, obviously if you were being seen in person we could ask you some follow up questions and exams me you to make sure this is the diagnosis. Unfortunately, "middle toe joint" is not enough of a description to understand what you are asking and needs more specificity. Could be a hammer toe problem, or any numb of other problems. Try and be more specific.
