A 33-year-old female asked:

hi, with my current medical conditions i.e hypertension & on simvastatin, hctz (hydrochlorothiazide) & losartan medications, is it safe for me to try garcinia cambogia?

Not really because: Alternative medications have no safety profile and are not rigorously tested for safety by any agency. It has nothing to do with your blood pressure meds. If your goal is weight loss (usual reason why people want to take garcinia), there is no better method than a proper diet and regular exercise. Try cutting your food portions in half and see how that goes for a month. I'm sure you'll see results

Tylenol, (acetaminophen) topical rub: Many OTC meds are safe in pregnancy, including Acetaminophen (tylenol) for muscle aches and pains. Topical rubs and patches (ben-gay, icy-hot) are also safe, which is considered very good news in the third trimester, when back and shoulder pain can really hurt! massage and, yes, heating pads are safe in pregnancy -- even a jacuzzi, as long as the temperature does not exceed that of a warm bath.

No: Ace inhibitors are not used during pregnancy. There are lots of alternatives and your doctor should be able to find a safe medication that controls your blood pressure. Ace inhibitors can cause birth defects and should be avoided.

Obesity?: There is no clear link in the various processes listed above, but morbid obesity put you at risk for all of these... If i saw a thin patient with all of those i'd say that central sleep apnea could account for three (sepsis, heart failure, and hypertension), but not gout. With weight loss heart failure, hypertension, and gout can be easier controlled or eliminated.
