A member asked:

My 13 yr old has heartburn and indigestion. she is laying on her side and she says it's better, but what ( without meds ) can we do to stop it?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Good weight/ foods: Heartburn is when the acid from the stomach reflexes or passes into the esophagus and causes pain (not related to the heart despite the name). To reduce this pain, maintain a healthy weight (overweight people have more heartburn) and choose heathy foods with less fat. Pizza, soda, and hot chips/ Cheetos can increase symptoms. Do not eat laying down or within 1 hour of bedtime.
