A member asked:

Augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) made me dizzy and body hurt after 2 doses. changed me to septra. what is the difference in the 2. it's for cellulitis in toe. ?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Skin Antibiotics: Augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) contains amoxicillin, a very close relative of penicillin, and gives coverage for the types of bacteria often in uncomplicated skin infections (cellulitis). Septra (or Bactrim) is a combination of trimethoprim and sulfamethoxazole, and gives better coverage for MRSA for cellulitis thought to be caused by this bacteria.
