A member asked:

A transvaginal ultrasound was normal and that a 2cm shading on r ovary looked benign as us did not brightly shine on it. how do tumors appear on us?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Irregular mass: Most ovarian tumors in US are first seen as small cystic lesions. If the cystic component is irregular and there are densities in the cyst, especially if greater than 5 cm., then laparoscopic bx used. If lesion is an irregular mass in the ovary not consistent with the smooth ovary, then bx again is indicated. Often an irregular mass is seen on the surface of the ovary and again bx is indicated.
