If you get hypertension under control with medications can you go off of the medications.

It's possible: If you just stopped them, your blood pressure will return to the levels it was before, maybe worse. However, if you start watching your diet and lose weight it is possible that you may not need meds any more. However, if you have certain conditions which cause high blood pressure (kidney disease, excess adrenaline, etc) chances are you will for ever need to be on a medication.

Not usually: Hypertension can be a chronic, progressive condition. Do not stop your medication without first consulting with your doctor.
