Several things: This could be caused by several things including polyps, infections, complications of contraceptives or other medicines, or diseases such as insulin resistance or thyroid disease. Whatever the cause, you need to see your doctor ASAP if you are having prolonged heavy bleeding. Don't wait until it stops to be seen. Good luck.
