Yes: The Mirena (levonorgestrel) IUD is designed to give effective birth control for 5 years and then needs to be replaced. If you are late by a few days to a few weeks you should be covered but don't push it if pregnancy is unwanted. To be absolutely safe use condoms for protection after the expiration date. Good luck.
