My boyfriend has suddenly started jolting in his sleep every few minutes. almost like he is having an electric shock it hasn't happened before?

Keep an eye on it: How long is this going on? What else happens during this episode and what happens after the episode? Is he otherwise doing well? This may be a parasomnia like RLS, however, you need to entertain the idea of a seizure disorder. If this persists, see his doctor or a neurologist.
