See an oral surgeon: That is quite unusual. I would say seeing an oral surgeon is best. I do not think surgery is needed. However, I do think an oral surgeon sees more unusual things like this than a general dentist does.

Clenching or bruxing: You may be biting your tongue and need a guard-----see a dentist-----you may have a sharp tooth that needs adjusting, maybe a malocclusion . An exam is needed.
