Had a chest x-ray which showed a slightly prominent epicardial fat pad showed up? what is it? was not there on x-ray done a month ago?

Why X-rays?: Unless you have some chest symptoms, it is not a good idea to do chest x-Rays. The pericardial fat does not imply any disease. But if you are concerned you can get a repeat chest X-ray 3 months after the last one. If there continues to be any concern that this is abnormal, you may need a CT scan of the chest which can show internal structures much better than a Chest x-rays does.

Not to worry: Fatty tissue in mediastinum varies in its promience according to degree of insiration.Fatty tissue is very soft and pliable. Shallow breath will make very prominent while deep breath can make look insignificant. In any event it is benign and not worrisome.
