Ovarian cyst: Ovarian cysts can and do recur often. As long as they spontaneously "disappear", no harm no foul. If the cyst gets very large, they can twist and cut off the blood supply and produce acute pain.

Can an ovarian cyst rupture? What are the signs and symptoms of having an ovarian cyst and what are the dangers ?

Yes: Every month when a woman ovulates there will be a cyst on one of her ovaries at least 2 centimeters in diameter. That cyst will rupture to release the egg. Most women do not know this has happened, but some women will have cramps or pain around the time of ovulation. Sometimes the cyst will fill with blood and be very painfull, usually it resolves on its own - but some will require surgery.

Nature or injury etc: Most common follicular cysts of menstrual cycle, constantly formed and disappear (rupture) , carpus luteal cysts may be associated with small bleeding, chocolate cysts caused by endometriosis may rupture due to pressure caused by fluid accumulation of fluid, all are harmless, ( may have thin wall ) except tumor cysts, ( same reason) some times direct trauma like car accident may cause.

Menstruation: Cysts are a normal part of the menstrual cycle. The ovary forms a "corpus luteum cyst" which ruptures near the time of menstruation if no fertilization occurs. It is thought that this may be one cause of benign ovarian cysts that keep growing.

Possible: Intercourse with deep penetration causes the uterus to move. The ovary is attached to the uterus by the ovarian ligament, so it is possible.
