A member asked:

Placenta tear at 18 weeks with history of placenta abruption. should i be concerned?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Not necessarily: Since the placenta cannot be directly examined, I am guessing that they are seeing an apparent collection of blood behind the placenta on ultrasound. These "subchorionic hematomas" are actually fairly common, are usually limited, and are not normally clinically significant. The chance of an evolving abruption is small but your history increases your risk. Monitor it and hopefully it is stable.
