Depends: Hi. Pituitary macroadenomas can cause problems by either: 1) producing hormones, or 2) mass effect (compressing normal pituitary tissue and/or the pituitary stalk). Hormone-producing tumors that can cause weight gain produce ACTH or growth hormone (GH). ACTH and GH tumors have very characteristic physical exam findings. See an endocrinologist. Macroadenomas either need treatment or close follow up
