A member asked:

Can hyperthyroidism alone cause difficulty swallowing? swallowing not painful, i just feel the food when i swallow. i need to consciously swallow

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes, a symptom: Hi. Yes, hyperthyroid patients often do describe difficulty swallowing. I believe it's due to the hyperthyroid state, and not a physical effect of a goiter. If you are diagnosed with hyperthyroidism, is it safe to assume you're being treated for it? I must assume no doctor will spectate you being hyperthyroid. When the hyperthyroidism resolves, so should the difficulty swallowing. Good luck!
