Why when the patient have neck swelling due to hyperthyroidism, it goes up when he/she swallow? why doesn't it going down?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

The thyroid gland is: Intimately associated with the thyroid cartilages and trachea. When you swallow the strap muscles in the neck elevate these structures. The thyroid naturally follows. This is true for normal and abnormal thyroid glands.
