A member asked:

Am i right in saying that a infected piercing or chesty cough would make sugars go either way?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Question unclear: If one is diabetic and develops any form of infection, cytokines released by inflammatory cells aid in preventing glucose from entering cells where they are utilized, thereby increasing plasma glucose levels. In addition, the release of adrenal steroids in response to inflammation/infection will also cause an increase in glucose levels. I cannot thing of what would force them lower.
