A member asked:

Htn and cortisol levels: i hear that cortisol levels can be tied directly to elevated pressure. if that is so, then how does one control cortisol?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Cortisol excess only: Hi. Cortisol EXCESS (i.e., Cushing's syndrome) is linked to HTN, but NOT physiologic levels of cortisol. Physiologic cortisol levels are linked with nice, healthy BP. In the absence of Cushing's, the treatment for HTN is blood pressure meds, NOT trying to lower cortisol levels. If you have been diagnosed with Cushing's and have HTN, your endocrinologist will work it up to see what you need done.
