Facial swelling: Facial swelling can be an indicator of a severe allergic reaction known as anaphylaxis. At the first sign of allergic reaction, such as lip swelling, oral diphenhydramine (Benedryl) should be taken right away. If symptoms do not improve or progress to more swelling, trouble swallowing or difficulty with breathing, emergency care is necessary.
