Musculoskeletal: Mostly, back pain results from muscle/ tendon strain, sprain, spasms etc and local trauma. Inflammation is another cause. Appropriate rest with hot or cold massage, stretching will help in most cases sometimes OTC pain meds may be needed, If symptoms persist a medical evaluation is needed to make sure nothing serious is going on.

Strain : It does sound muscular. You may try local heat. Also, acetaminophen or an NSAID like naproxen if safe for you, can give pain relief.

Strain..: It seems you might had suffer of a back strain. Try to ice the area three times a day for 15 mins, no heavy lifting at least during this week and if you are not allergic take anti-inflammatory meds(like ibuprofen) during this week. If you are not better make sure you visit your doctor for further exam.
