Eye "freckles" from : birth are common in dark-skinned children. The medical name is benign epithelial or scleral melanocytosis, because they are usually harmless growths of melanocytes, pigment-producing cells in the " whites" of the eyes. Since all children should have a their vision examined at age 3 years, ask for a referral to a pediatric ophthalmologist- an M.D. eye doctor - at your child's 4- year check-up.
