Rotator cuff: It is hard to say exactly because there are many relevant details that are not included (i know space is limited), but the most common cause of upper arm (shoulder) pain while lifiting weights is rotator cuff problems. See an ortho surgeon if it has been present for awhile and/or doesn't respond to a short period of rest.
