Dislocated Jaw: If the jaw is dislocated, the dentist may be able to place it back into the correct position using the appropriate maneuvers, local anesthetics and muscle relaxants if needed. In a rare cases, surgery is needed to reposition the dislocated jaw.

Symptoms and source: History of your issue and an exam are pertinent to your care. The duration of your "dislocation" may help determine what you have and potential treatment. Oral surgeons are a great source for info and exam, but also consider a TMJ/TMD specialist, whom hopefully is a good referral source for the oral surgeons and vice versa.
